In 2010, the Rubicon Trail Foundation purchased nearly 300 acres of previously private property. The reason was two fold, one secure legal standing on the trail and secondly provide new public camping opportunity. Over the course of the last 9 years we've been working securing access and infrastructure. In 2016, RTF and RTP reached an agreement for a boundary line adjustment and this was completed in 2017. That same year, we opened the property to the public for the first time for 6 weekends. In 2018, we were able to open the property for almost every weekend between May and October. In 2019, we are planning on opening the property from June through the end of September.
In addtion, we have group campsites designed by several organizations and these groups will be working to develop camping that would be available to all. Please refer to the calendar below for information on campsites and open/closed status of the property.
Set up your own trip
Many folks, especially those with experience or frequent visitors are used to bringing their own gear and enjoying the trail experience with a small group. This is a great option.
Go with your club
There are many 4x4 club runs occurring on the trail at any given time during the summer season. Join a local club and enjoy the trail, they will be happy to help you get started.
