Friends of the Rubicon

Friends of the Rubicon (FOTR) is a grass roots organization founded in 2000 by Del Albright. There is no membership, no dues and only one meeting each year. Del Albright is the only person officially linked to FOTR as the "Trail Boss". FOTR is a volunteer work force, dedicated to keeping the Rubicon Trail in good condition and protecting the surrounding forests.

In contrast, RTF is a formal, federally recognized non-profit organization with Officers and Directors. RTF acts as the financial support for FOTR projects and as liaison with local government organizations. This support can range from getting approval for projects from the appropriate government, to feeding the volunteers, to writing sections of the government plan to manage the Rubicon Trail, to buying supplies need to maintain the trail.

Although many people are involved in both RTF and FOTR, the two groups are in fact not related other than the goal of helping the Rubicon Trail.
