Forests & Governments

Eldorado National Forest (ENF) – The Rubicon Trail traditionally starts in the city of Georgetown California. It soon enters the Eldorado National Forest. It travels about eleven miles through the Pacific Ranger District of the ENF before entering the Tahoe National Forest.

The ENF does not have jurisdiction over the trail. The Rubicon Trail is a county road in both El Dorado and Placer counties. The ENF is involved with the Rubicon Trail because the trail runs through the middle of the forest. For this reason, the ENF is a very vocal player in the decisions made to govern the trail.
